Urmen Desai MD

Dr. Desai has achieved an amazing career path to becoming a Plastic Surgeon. Growing up in Newton, Massachusetts, Dr. Desai participated in pre-college courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during high school and obtained an Honors degree in Neuroscience from New York afterward. During one summer of college, he worked at Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts General Hospital, and the following summer he was one of the few chosen from among a large pool of contenders for a summer research program at NASA in Cape Canaveral, Florida. After college, he was sent to India by the World Health Organization (WHO) in New Delhi. Upon his return to Boston, he studied Art at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Desai initially intended to become a Neurosurgeon, but after spending a summer at Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts General Hospital's Department of Neurosurgery and participating in a mission project for reconstructing cleft lips and palates in China to help kids with congenital abnormalities, he chose to pursue a profession in Plastic Surgery. He obtained an advanced degree in Health Policy from Harvard University and a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, which he finished while he was in Boston. Then he completed a surgical internship in General Surgery, and a residency program in Plastic Surgery at Brown Medical School, Children's Hospital Boston - Harvard Medical School, and Tufts Medical Center. All through his residency, he was actively engaged in Plastic Surgery research at Children's Hospital - Harvard Medical School.
